Erykah Badu’s new album comes out today. Growing up, my biggest influences were Erykah, along with Maxwell and D’Angelo. Their albums really made such an impact on me. I’ll always regard listening to “On & On” as being the moment that the rimshot entered my life. Over the years Badu’s been stretching the boundaries of R&B. Her last album “4th World War” was some of the most challenging material I’ve ever heard. Can’t wait for the new one. Just saw the “Window Seat” music video yesterday. Crazy stuff. Picking up a CD today!

So I’m still working on getting highlights up from the U-Stream with Macy Gray. It was such a surreal moment talking with her on her show. I kept on thinking I was going to get nervous but it somehow never happened. Even felt a bit of disbelief when I woke up the next day.

Playing a cover of “I Try” for her has to be one of the craziest experiences I’ve ever had. After I finished the song, she was like, “my face flushed.” Can’t wait to put the clip up but until then, I have this tweet to remind me it actually happened!

UPDATE: Check out the archive of my live stream with Macy Gray. The experience is going down as one of the most memorable moments of my entire life. Nearly 30,000 viewers tuned in to watch me and Macy chat away about music, society and life in general. The whole thing lasted almost 2 hours! I’ll be putting highlights up on YouTube so check back soon. Leave a comment and let me know what you guys think!
