Help SAVE Janet’s life!

Saw this campaign floating around on the web and it really hit home. As a bone marrow donor myself, I want to urge each and everyone of you to sign up to the registry. You just might be able to save someone’s life. Janet Liang (pictured above) was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2009 and now doctors say she has 2 months to live. Please sign up on the registry. You could potentially save Janet’s life or someone else who needs bone marrow. Register online: here.

In 2006 I had the chance to donate my bone marrow to an 8 year old girl named Ruby from Singapore. Almost 6 years later and healthy, she’ll be 15 years old this year. So please, I cannot stress it enough how important signing up on the registry is. Life is so precious and I never realized it until I had my bone marrow experience. Thanks for reading and feel free to share the facebook page. Her family and friends are trying to spread the word. Let’s find Janet a donor!

Happy New Year, everyone. In keeping with tradition with the good folks at Bicoastal Bitchin’, I’ve written another guest post of my annual round up of the year in Asian American music. Read the post here. Thanks to Cbruhs! This is the only time of year I get to pretend I work for Rolling Stone.

For my previous posts from the last two years you can read them here: 2010 and 2009.

Oh, and happy humpday! It’s the first one of the year. Woo hoo.

Kollaboration 11

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

I’m performing at Kollaboration 11!! Ahh! As you guys may remember, I got a chance to compete last year for Kollaboration Acoustic 4 and because I won, I have the chance to compete again in the big LA show this year. It’s at the Nokia Theater, 7100 seats! Kollaboration has always been a dream of mine and I’ve wanted to perform since seeing my first show in 2003. Please come out and support! Tickets start at $25 but for a limited time you can get them from my personal link for just $15 + $2 service charge. Buy tix here at: http://kollaboration.org/dawen. This year’s headliner is K-Popstar G.NA and there will be other performances by Clara C, DanakaDan and afterschoolspecial and my TNP buddy Andrew and the BROTS.

It would mean so much to me to see you all there. I premiered my song “Shoes” last year at Kollaboration and I hope to debut another new song this year! As always, thank you to everyone who has followed me on my journey thus far. Couldn’t do it without you!

“Chinese Friday” on the radio!

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

So last week many of you messaged me saying that you heard my Chinese version of “Friday” on the radio! So crazy! From Miami to here in LA, even Carson Daly posted about it on his station. Thank you guys for diggin’ the tune. I still can’t believe that something I originally intended as a light-hearted video found so many listeners. Stay tuned, there may be more Chinese version pop tunes in the near future…
